WWE Chairman Vince McMahon Has Reportedly Made a Weird Hiring Decision

Being a referee in the pro-wrestling industry is just as difficult as being a wrestler, and when one works for WWE as a referee, there comes a long list of things one can and can’t do while officiating a match. However, it looks like WWE CEO Vince McMahon is looking to add another stipulation before hiring referees.

Referees in today’s wrestling landscape are difficult to find because they just don’t have to count till three and pull the wrestlers away from the ropes. The refs these days set the tone of the match, check on the player’s health, amongst other things.

As per Dave Meltzer of ‘Wrestling Observer Newsletter‘, the WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon will make some changes in the hiring process of WWE referees.

According to Meltzer, McMahon will hire ‘shorter’ referees who would be in the middle of the ring officiating the matches between the wrestlers.

The reason Vince is getting behind this decision is that these shorter referees would make the wrestlers present in the ring look like larger-than-life figures because of their tall stature.

Vince McMahon has driven this ‘shorter figures’ narrative backstage as well

Not only is the boss is looking to hire shorter referees, but the backstage interviewers are short as well. We see WWE broadcaster Kayla Braxton conducting multiple interviews during the shows and the wrestlers standing next to her appear to be gigantic.

The same narrative was done with NXT earlier this year too when McMahon took the matter into his own hands and revamped the former black and gold brand into NXT 2.0.

These ‘short stature’ non-wrestling figures were very common back in the 80s and the early 90s era of pro wrestling. Chiefly, it looks like Vince is willing to make some marquee changes for the sake of WWE’s programming.
