Emily In Paris season 2: Lily Collins wants to ‘really put focus’ on diversity and inclusion in Netflix series

Lily Collins has explained that she wanted to ‘really put our focus’ on diversity and inclusion in season 2 of Emily In Paris after hearing viewers’ ‘concerns’ following its launch on Netflix.
In October 2020, the first season of Emily In Paris was released on the streaming platform, starring Lily as the titular character who moves from the US to the city of love to take on a new job in social media marketing.
Lily, 32, who is also a producer on the show, said during a recent interview that after the first 10 episodes came out, she paid close attention to some of the criticism the series attracted from viewers.
The actor emphasised that she wished to ensure that there was greater diversity and inclusion within the cast and the crew after ‘hearing people’s thoughts’.
Speaking to Elle UK, she said: ‘For me as Emily, but also as a producer on [the show], after seasons one, hearing people’s thoughts, concerns, questions, likes, dislikes, just feelings about it, there were certain things that spoke to the time that we’re living in and what’s right, and moral and correct and should be done.
‘And I really wanted diversity and inclusion in front of and behind the camera to be something that we really put our focus on, in a lot of ways.’

She added that this included ‘hiring new people in front of the camera’, in addition to ‘giving new storylines to different characters, which was really important’.
Emily In Paris received several award nominations for its first season, including nods at the Emmys, the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Some slammed the show’s Emmy nomination considering the divisive reaction the series garnered from viewers, including French critics calling it out for its ‘rude and stereotypical’ depiction of Paris.
Lily recently spoke out in response to critics who labelled her character Emily ‘annoying’, saying that she found it ‘sad’ that people who think that someone who is ‘optimistic, bright and bubbly’ would be ‘a lot’.

The Love, Rosie star, who is the daughter of musician Phil Collins and his ex-wife Jill Tavelman, married her partner Charlie McDowell earlier this year, sharing a series of picturesque photos from their wedding on social media.
‘I’ve never wanted to be someone’s someone more than I do yours, and now I get to be your wife,’ she said about her husband, who is the son of actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen.
Emily In Paris season 2 is due to launch on Netflix on December 22.
