Ashleigh Barty has been one of the most dominant forces on the WTA tour in recent years. The Australian has consistently put in excellent performances and maintained her spot at the top of the world rankings. The two-time Grand Slam champion has now added another feather to her cap.
Ashleigh Barty becomes the 8th woman to spend 100 weeks at World No. 1
Recently, Ashleigh Barty achieved an incredible feat. The Australian tennis player has managed to hold onto the top spot in the WTA Rankings for a staggering 100 (non-consecutive) weeks. In doing so, she has joined an elite list which includes players such as Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, and Chris Evert.

For Barty to be mentioned in the same list as Williams, Graf, and even Martina Navratilova is a huge achievement in itself. The only other players on the list are – Chris Evert, Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, and Justine Henin, making the Australian star only the 8th player to reach this incredible landmark.
Barty’s run in the 2021 season
The Australian player has played sensational tennis this season. She won the WTA 1000 event in Miami and followed that by beating Czech player Karolina Pliskova in the final of the Wimbledon Championships. She won the Championships for the first time in her career. In doing so, she cemented her rankings right at the top.

After that, she won the Cincinnati Masters and looked in good form, moving into the US Open this season. Sadly, she lost in the third round of the final Grand Slam event of the season.
As she is the top-ranked player, she was expected to compete in the season-ending WTA Finals this season. However, Barty will not be competing at the event in Guadalajara. Hopefully, she will make a strong comeback at the Australian Open next year.
