WATCH: Cole Custer Gives Ex F1 Driver Daniil Kvyat a Crash Course in NASCAR
In motorsport, it is usual for sportspersons from other disciplines to show up as spectators. Earlier this weekend, former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat turned up to the Martinsville Speedway for the race. Apparently, he was a guest for the Stewart-Haas Racing team. So, Cole Custer and Chase Briscoe had the opportunity to show the Russian driver around in the paddock.
He said, “Hello everybody, to all NASCAR fans and race fans in general. I’m Daniil Kvyat, I’m here first time to watch the NASCAR race. Very excited to be here. Maybe one day who knows, I can try one of these things. They look really cool and who knows, maybe one day, everyone will watch a race here. So hopefully see you soon and enjoy the race today.”
What is Daniil Kvyat up to?
At the moment, the Russian driver serves as a reserve for the Alpine Racing Formula One team. In other words, he gets to run in select practice sessions or act as a substitute if Fernando Alonso or Esteban Ocon are indisposed. Aside from that, he has no other racing commitments, so if he wanted a one-off NASCAR run, he could go for it.

Meanwhile, the Stewart-Haas Racing team is coming off a fairly average season. Kevin Harvick is the highest-placed driver of the three, in 9th place. Meanwhile, Briscoe and Custer lie 23rd and 27th, respectively. Without a doubt, they will be eager to close out the remaining two races and look forward to the next season.
2022 is an important year, as the NASCAR Cup Series embraces a new era with the Next Gen cars. Over here, there will be brand new specs, so the drivers have to adapt quickly. In other words, many teams are starting from scratch and the pecking order may be shaken up.
