Andy Ruiz Jr. Makes Surprising Admission About Teofimo Lopez

Out of all the divisions in boxing, the lightweight roster has some of the most noteworthy prodigies that might become future legends of the sport. Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Gervonta Davis are the top four stars of this division and fans are desperate to see them go up against each other.

For now, Lopez holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF lightweight titles. With this, he’s in a colossal spot to face any and everyone in the division.

Recently, Andy Ruiz Jr., the former unified heavyweight champ, was full of praise for Teofimo Lopez.

Speaking to Brian Custer, he said, “I like them all, man. ‘Tank’ is a beast, I think Teofimo has. His ability is just overrated. His ability was amazing. But I think if people would fight Teofimo, I think Teofimo will beat all of them, in my eyes.”

A year ago, Lopez pulled off a modern era boxing upset by defeating the lightweight great, Vasyl Lomachenko.

‘The Takeover’ walked in as an underdog in that fight, but from the first bell itself, he showed he had a purpose. For the first half of the fight, Lopez was the aggressor, and he left his impact. As a result, he turned the tide in his favor, winning the fight via a unanimous decision.

But since that fight, Lopez hasn’t fought once or defended any of his titles. With this, the entire lightweight division is stagnated and other contenders aren’t getting their chance towards the gold.

When is Teofimo Lopez fighting next?

Lopez was set to face George Kambosos Jr. earlier this year, but the fight got postponed numerous times. However, this fight again has a date, and that’s November 27.

This fight will be The Takeover’s first prime title defense. As a result, Lopez cannot miss out on this fight as he’ll be in a vulnerable spot to lose his belts.

This fight’s result will also open the way for other contenders to sneak in and get their shot towards the glory. It’ll be interesting to see how things take place in the lightweight division in the coming few months.
