Dominic Thiem Announces Good News for Australian Open 2022

In a year that’s filled with more losses and injury setbacks for Austrian tennis sensation Dominic Thiem, things didn’t go from bad to worse he was able to recover from his wrist injury without the need for a surgery.

Now, the Austrian announced his plans to make a comeback to tennis later this year at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships, an exhibition event that will be played from 16th to 18th of December.

Thiem took to Instagram to announce the news over his return.

“I am very happy to announce that my recovery is going well. The MRI I did today showed that my wrist injury has improved significantly. My team and I strongly believe that I’ll be ready to make my comeback to competition later this year.”

The 2020 US Open champion also revealed his intentions to make a strong comeback at the Australian Open next year.

“I’ll be returning to competition in December and will be playing the MWTC 2021 in Abu Dhabi – with the objective to return to the tour for the 2022 Australian Open”, continued Thiem.

Thiem also made it clear about his vaccination status to fans and revealed that he was vaccinated as both the events he plan to participate require an athlete to be fully jabbed.

“Needles to say that the vaccine is needed to play both events, and in my case I have already been vaccinated”, concluded Thiem in his long Instagram post.

The comeback of Dominic Thiem is a good sign to men’s tennis as it had seen the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer struggling this year alongside the Austrian. With Nadal and Thiem showing positive signs during practice, expect the 2022 tennis season to be wildly competitive.

Ever since winning the US Open last year and reaching the finals at the year-end championships, Thiem appeared to struggle with consistency this season as he couldn’t make a lasting impact on any of the tournaments he played.

Except for the Mutua Madrid Open where he reached the semis, the Austrian star lost in the first round at Roland Garros to Pablo Andujar. Even Thiem’s expectations of making it big on grass were dented by his injury at the Mallorca Championships.

If Dominic Thiem gets into top form by the end of Australian Open, the rest of the season will become more competitive with the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and others joining the baton to stop the Big-3 alongside the Austrian at slams.
