“Don’t Think I Deserve to Win”: Andy Murray After Squandering 7 Match Points at Rolex Paris Masters 2021

2016 champion Andy Murray did not find the result he was looking for against German Dominik Koepfer in the opening round at Rolex Paris Masters 2021. Although he had seven match points, Murray lost the battle 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9). Accordingly, he felt that he didn’t deserve to win the match based on the lost chances.

Notably, the 34-year-old has made admirable progress on the ATP Tour in the last two months. However, Murray has come short of winning on more than many occasions in a tight battle. Indeed, this year’s Paris Bercy early exit will be another such loss on his list.

After taking the opening set, Murray was driving to take the win in straight sets. But as the match went longer, the Scot had lesser control over what was happening on the court.

Therefore, despite having seven match points, Murray failed to close the opening round. Later on, he admitted that his game was not good enough.

“I don’t think I deserve to win,” Murray said. “I had chance to do it, but the way I played was not good enough.”

Furthermore, Murray stated the loss doesn’t change any of his upcoming plans. Besides, he is already looking forward to the pre-season for next year.

“I didn’t changed my plans,” the three-time Grand Slam champion added. “I will play Stockholm Open as I said, and then I’ll prepare the next season.”

In the end, Murray accepted that he played a lot of tournaments in a row but didn’t go very deep in any of them. He even acknowledged that he played a lot of long matches as he did against Koepfer.

Which tournament will Murray play next?

As per his plans, Murray will fly to Sweden and compete at the Stockholm Open next. The tournament will start on 7th November and run until 13th November 2021.

Undoubtedly, the Scot has had to endure many close losses in the 2021 season. Despite that, he has continued to come back and put on a show in front of the crowd.

Hence, Murray would love to end the season on a grand note doing well in Stockholm. Given his tremendous growth, it won’t be a surprise to see him go all the way in Sweden.
