She’s impressed judges and viewers alike on Strictly Come Dancing so far, and now Ed Sheeran has tipped actress Rose Ayling-Ellis to win this year’s series.

Rose scored a perfect 40 in week six for her Halloween-themed tango performed to Ed’s new hit single Shivers, and now she looks like the dancer to beat.

It’s the earliest the top mark has ever been achieved on the show – and now the singer-songwriter has backed her to win the whole thing.

Asked on BBC Breakfast, he told Dan Walker and Sally Nugent: ‘No… whenever I have people dance to my songs on Strictly it’s usually Thinking Out Loud or Perfect, so it was actually a really nice thing to… it was a really pleasant surprise and I thought she did wonderfully and I think she’s going to win.’

He also revealed he surprised Rose and dancing partner Giovanni Pernice with a video message on Saturday night.

He said: ‘Hey Rose, Ed Sheeran here. Thank-you so much for dancing to my track Shivers with Giovanni. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the season, I hope you win and I’m really honoured that you’re dancing to it. Have a great day, lots of love.’

It comes after Giovanni celebrated his history-making perfect score with Rose from Saturday night’s show, dubbing it ‘one of the most rewarding moments of my career’.

The pair earned four 10s from judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke, marking the earliest a couple has ever achieved a perfect score on the BBC One series.

In a post shared on Instagram, Giovanni – who became overcome with emotion when they received their scores on the night – emphasised just how much the achievement meant to him.

The professional dancer, who’s been on Strictly since 2015, paid homage to his partner Rose, describing her as an ‘inspiration’.

‘One of the most rewarding moment [sic] of my career… and is all down to you @rose.a.e ! You are an inspiration.. a super star!’ he said in his caption on Instagram.
