Will Poulter may have just recently finished up on new series Dopesick, but he’s already lining himself up for his biggest role yet, as he takes on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The 28-year-old actor was confirmed as part of the line-up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last month and will star as ‘powerful’ Adam Warlock.

The character was heavily teased at the end of the last film and was introduced into the comics back in the late 1960s.

When asked how he felt to be joining the MCU, he told Metro.co.uk and other press: ‘I’m exceptionally lucky, honestly. Even when you say it out loud, it feels weird to me.

‘I’m still in a kind of pinch myself phase because it is the MCU, I can’t say anything as you probably know.

‘But I’m very honoured to be joining Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s a franchise that I regard to be one of the most unique and creative out there and [I’m] very honoured to have been included.’

Director James Gunn confirmed the news after an article from Deadline let slip his casting.

He tweeted: ‘As you guys know I often strike down false rumours, so… um… Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter.

‘He’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple of weeks.’

In a post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, released in 2017, Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign, revealed the birthing pod for Adam.

She went on to declare him as ‘more powerful, more beautiful and more capable of destroying the Guardians of the Galaxy.’

While details of the film are being kept tightly under wraps, we can’t wait to see what the MCU has in store for Will.

Elsewhere, his new show Dopesick is just about to land on Disney Plus, in which he plays Purdue Pharma rep Billy Cutler, who rises through the ranks of the company in the midst of America’s opioid crisis.

He stars opposite Michael Keaton, Kaitlyn Dever, Rosario Dawson and Peter Sarsgaard in the gripping eight-part drama, which is released later this month.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023 and Dopesick lands on Disney Plus on November 12.
