All Elite Wrestling star Jon Moxley is entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program, as confirmed by his boss Tony Khan.

The AEW chief revealed the former world champion – who worked as Dean Ambrose in WWE before joining the rival promotion in April 2019 – allowed him to make the announcement, and hailed his ‘very brave’ decision to seek help for his addiction issues.

In a statement on Twitter, Khan wrote: ‘Jon Moxley has allowed me to share with you that he is entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program. Jon is a beloved member of the AEW family. We all stand with him and Renee, and all of his family and friends, as he shifts his focus to recovery.

‘Jon is making a very brave choice to get help, and we’re embracing his choice and supporting him however we can.

‘I’m proud to call Jon a friend, and like many of you, I’m also a fan of Mox and look forward to a time in the future when he is eventually ready to return to the ring.

‘Until then, thank you for supporting Jon and respecting his privacy at this time.’

Moxley had been scheduled to face Orange Cassidy in the semi-finals of the ongoing AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament.

His most recent match came over the weekend as he beat Jimmy Jacobs at Wrestler Revolver’s Tales From The Ring event, and Moxley – who is huge focus of AEW – is also the current GCW Champion after beating Matt Cardona two months ago to claim the title.

Meanwhile, Jon and his wife Renee welcomed their first child, Nora, into the world in June, and the couple previously opened up about what they want for their daughter.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk before his baby’s birth, he said: ‘The advice I’d give to any child I have, any friend of mine, anybody in the world, anybody reading this – if you’re blessed with the opportunity, you’re healthy and have the opportunity to do the things you love in life, you’ve gotta take advantage while we’re here!

‘I’m blessed that I get to do what I like to do for a living – I would do it for free, but they just happen to pay me for it and I don’t have to go to a regular job and clock in 9 to 5.

‘Being afraid to do stuff and sitting in your little safety bubble, staying at home watching Netflix isn’t really for me.’
