‘Could Have Cost Us’: Lakers’ Anthony Davis Speaks Out About Controversial Referee Decision vs Rockets
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most popular franchises in the NBA. The Lakers boast a star-studded roster that includes the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and others. Trained by an elite coach, Frank Vogel, the Lakers won the 2020 NBA championship title with LeBron picking up the Finals MVP award.
The Lakers recently faced a peculiar in-game situation against the Houston Rockets. It involved the game’s referees taking away two points from the Lakers in a controversial decision. The referees rescinded the points gained through Kent Bazemore’s two free throws as they understood their mistake.
However, it resulted in the Lakers losing possession. Anthony Davis explained his view on the bizarre incident during the post-game conference.
Davis said, “The scoreboard said four team fouls, which means it was the fifth, and so Baze shot two free throws. And when they went back to look at it, it was only the fourth-team foul. They put it up there right away, so it was really four, and so they took the two points away, but what me, Bron, and coach were explaining to the refs was that ‘well, we lost a possession.’ We didn’t take the ball out or anything. We shot free throws, they take the points away, and now we just lose the entire possession, which could have cost us the game. They just said there is nothing they can do about it and stuff like that. So it’s a good thing it didn’t hurt us, but yeah, that was a funky situation.”
The Lakers ultimately won the closely contested game. However, the lost possession could have changed the game in the Rockets’ favor. Frank Vogel challenged the league for answers regarding this questionable decision.

Los Angeles Lakers avoid defeat against Houston Rockets
The Los Angeles Lakers continued a two-game winning streak with a victory over the Houston Rockets. The controversial decision to take two points off the Lakers scoreboard marred the game. However, a win of 119-117 against a young Rockets team could not mask the Lakers’ defensive frailties. The home team sorely missed defensive stalwart Dwight Howard, who is out with a neck injury.

Lakers’ talisman LeBron James scored 30 points and 10 assists with 14 points scored in the fourth quarter. Both Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook scored 27 points each. Christian Wood performed particularly well for the Rockets with a 26 point haul. And 19-year-old Jalen Green tallied 24 points.
The Lakers will face the OKC Thunder next at Staples Center.
