Jameela Jamil flooded with support as she reveals depression struggle: ‘It’s just hard to even breathe sometimes’

The Good Place star Jameela Jamil has revealed she is again struggling with depression.

Jameela, 35, is an outspoken advocate for mental health and social justice, and often shares her thoughts on social media.

The actor admitted she was beginning to struggle with depression again and offered her support to anyone who was going through the same thing.

‘I’ve been struggling with depression again lately. Finding it really hard to cope at times,’ she explained on social media.

‘Sending you love if you are too. It’s not your fault. You’re not weak for not being able to pull yourself together.

‘It’s just hard to even breathe sometimes. Wishing you some happy times.’

In a caption, the actor and DJ added: ‘You’re not alone.’

Jameela was instantly flooded with messages of support from fans, friends and colleagues, with many thanking her for continuing to speak up on the issues.

Her boyfriend, musician James Blake, assured her he was there to ‘rewatch Succession as many times as you like’, with one fan responding to say he was ‘a keeper’.

Veteran actor Andie MacDowell, known for Four Weddings And A Funeral and, most recently smash Netflix hit Maid also sent best wishes to Jameela and offered some advice.

She wrote: ‘Sunshine and time and good friends’, adding ‘I send you all positive thoughts’.

Comedian Chelsea Handler said she was ‘sending you love. Nothing is permanent.’

One fan wrote: ‘Sending you so much love, thank you for always talking about these things. it really does make people feel less alone.’

‘You deserve better’, another fan assured the actor, while another thanked her for being honest and said: ‘Was having a rough lonely day and just felt a little reclusive and then I see this and my heart feels warm and uplifted’.

On Twitter, where Jameela also shared her feelings, she was met with similar messages of support, with one person writing: ‘Sending you love and light as I know how debilitating depression is.’

One fan shared their own story, writing: ‘I’m currently in the midst of a bad depressive episode. Much love to everyone living through it. Depression is a mother f***er’, to which Jameela agreed: ‘It’s a bastard.’

‘Love you and love this message’, another wrote, while one fan said: ‘It’s always nice to know you’re truly not alone, even in your darkest time’.

The former BBC Radio 1 host has also announced that she will be doing a sponsored walk on behalf of suicide prevention charity Didi Hirsch.

Holding a sign with the words ‘2,160’, Jameela said: ‘That’s the number of lives lost to suicide each day around the globe. It’s also the number of steps I’ll be walking with [the charity] … to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention.

She urged anyone interested to get involved, adding ‘We’re in this together’.
