Jay-Z has joined Instagram and has followed just one account – his wife Beyonce’s.
In the year of our Lord 2021, and years after everybody else, the hip-hop sueprstar has finally set up an Instagram account, sharing his first post this morning.
In just a few hours, Jay-Z has attracted well over 1.6 million followers, which will come as a surprise to no one considering he is one of the biggest artists in the world.
This number is eclipsed, however, by his wife, who boasts a jaw-dropping 216 million followers on Instagram.
The Halo singer joined Instagram all the way back in 2012, and has lasted almost 10 years without following a single person – until now.
She swiftly followed Jay-Z’s brand new account, making her husband the first person she has connected to on the social media platform.

Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, is posting under the account name @jayz.
He used his first post to promote upcoming Netflix western The Harder They Fall, which tells a fictional story based on real-life black cowboys from American history.
These cowboys include outlaw Rufus Buck (Idris Elba), Treacherous Trudy Smith (Regina King), Stagecoach Mary, (Zazie Beetz), and Nat Love (Jonathan Majors).
The rapper and businessman also used Instagram stories for the first time to share a trailer with a countdown to the release of the film.
Jay-Z, 51, serves as producer on the feature and teamed up with fellow US rapper Kid Cudi for the song Guns Go Bang for the soundtrack, and likely sees the huge potential for Instagram as a marketing tool.
The release of The Harder They Fall comes just after Jay-Z was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, alongside the likes of Foo Fighters, Carole King, Tina Turner and The Go-Gos.
The musician was visibly emotional as he was inducted at a ceremony at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, and admitted he would ‘cry in the car’ on the way home.

The ceremony saw Jay-Z be introduced with a star-studded video featuring messages of support from Barack Obama, Diddy, Samuel L Jackson, LeBron James, Chris Rock, and of course Beyonce herself.
Former US president Obama heaped praise on the rapper, calling him ‘one of the most renowned artists in history and an embodiment of the American dream, a dream he has helped make real for other young people like him.’
Beyonce and Jay-Z have been together since around 1999 and were married in 2008; their relationship has remained strong despite cheating rumours later admitted to by Jay himself.
They share three children together: Blue Ivy, nine, and twins Rumi and Sir, four.
