The trailer for Money Heist season 5 part 2 has been released, teasing an explosive end to the acclaimed Netflix series as the final five episodes are released.

The previous release of Money Heist episodes in September this year spelt tragedy for the gang as they attempted to soldier on with their heist from within the Bank of Spain despite a series of setbacks and life-threatening challenges.

In the closing scenes, Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), one of the principal members of the group from day one and the narrator of the series, was killed in a military attack, devastating her friends, including their leader the Professor (Álvaro Morte) and her lover Rio (Miguel Herrán).

While Tokyo managed to detonate several grenades in her final moments as one last counterattack against the enemy, her death has left those involved in the heist in a precarious position. Will they manage to succeed in extracting the gold… if they even survive?

In the new trailer for the Spanish crime drama, the characters are feeling immense pain from the loss of Tokyo.

Nonetheless, it appears that the Professor might still have a few tricks hidden under his sleeve.

While they initially met as strangers, recruited by the Professor for their first heist at the Royal Mint of Spain, by the final season of Money Heist, it’s clear the gang are well and truly family.

Therefore, Tokyo’s death cuts extremely deeply, as Rio, the Professor, Denver (Jaime Lorente), Stockholm (Esther Acebo), Lisbon (Itziar Ituño) and the rest of the group feel the pain of her loss.

Following Tokyo’s death, several fans questioned whether she would still be the narrator of the series for the final episodes.

Considering the trailer has teased more flashback scenes for the character, perhaps she’ll still be a pivotal part of the drama from beyond the grave.

An official picture for the new episodes shows some members of the gang seemingly playing music together, possibly in tribute to their late friend.

In depths of despair, Professor hatches a plan

Always the man with the plan, the second heist has shown more of the Professor’s vulnerable side, as he attempts to lead a mission despite breaking one of his original cardinal rules – avoiding personal relationships within the team.

While at times it appears as though he’s found himself backed into a corner, unable to see a way out, in the trailer, a steely look can be seen on his face as he races away in a car, seemingly with his focus intact.

Another scene shows him appearing to enter the Bank of Spain, surrounded by armed guards as the crowds watch on.

But be warned – doom also looms for the Professor, with the official synopsis for season five part two revealing that he’s going to make ‘the biggest mistake of his life’.

We dread to find out what that is.

Berlin returns from the dead once more

Having died at the very end of the first heist, Berlin – the Professor’s brother who suffered from a terminal illness – is back in more flashback scenes.

Fans absolutely loved seeing him carry out sneaky robberies with his son Rafael (Patrick Criado) and wife Tatiana (Diana Gómez) in the past, and it looks like we’re going to see more of the master robber in his heyday.

Could this mean that Rafael will end up being the secret key to the gang somehow making it out of the Bank of Spain?

Military continue reign of terror

While in the Bank of Spain, the group faced their toughest opponents yet when they felt the full force of an elite military squad.

While there’s a possibility that Tokyo took some of them out in her final act, some of them are still as alive as ever, which means all of our favourite characters’ lives are at stake.

Alicia Sierra and Professor go head-to-head

Fearsome inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) is a force to be reckoned with, having managed to discover the Professor’s hideout and torture him all on her own while on the run, having been thrown under the bus by her colleagues in the police.

While she initially held the Professor as her prisoner, she ended up releasing him so that he could help deliver her baby in season five part one.

Although it seemed as though she and the Professor may have forged a connection through the shared experience, Sierra doesn’t seem like the kind of person to switch allegiances so quickly.

In the trailer for part two, she can be seen keeping watch while holding a gun, before becoming involved in some sort of gun-related altercation on the road with another car.

In an official image for the final five episodes, she and the Professor face one another, guns raised as they stare each other in the eye.

Is another heartbreaking death on the cards?

With the military still within the Bank of Spain, at the end of the trailer, several members of the gang are forced to their knees by the soldiers in what looks like could be a multiple execution.

At one point, Denver can be seen screaming while being held back, which could be in reaction to witnessing something terrible happen right before his very eyes.

Following 36 episodes filled with heartbreak, joy, triumph and sadness, we don’t know how we’re going to be able to handle these final five episodes.

Money Heist season 5 part 2 is due to launch on December 3 on Netflix with all previous episodes available to watch on the platform.
