Sarah Snook didn’t think the role of Shiv Roy on Succession was for her when she first read the script.

The Australian actress joined the HBO show at the very start playing the only daughter of Brian Cox’s Logan Roy and heiress to his billion dollar business empire.

But according to Snook, she could not be more different from her character, which made her wonder if she was the right person for the role of Shiv.

‘When I first read the script, I thought, “This is not me, I don’t know what a billionairess is like, I can’t play it”,’ confessed the actress chatting with Harper’s Bazaar.

‘So, I said, “I’ll give you what I can do.”’

We couldn’t be more glad she did because we couldn’t imagine anyone else in that role.

Snook received the television actress award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards on Tuesday for her delicious and devilish performance in Succession.

The star also talked to the publication about being a style icon, a concept which she didn’t really feel applies to her.

‘It’s so wild, and very amusing to me because I am not a style icon at all.

‘I have had a few instances where people have recognised me from the show and gone, “Oh, no it couldn’t be” because I’ve not lived up to the expectation! Really I’m nothing like Shiv,’ she said.

Asked about her personal life Snook also opened up about her desire to have children but being faced with the struggle of managing the right time.

‘When’s the right time to have kids? It’s the age-old question for women and there is no answer,’ she said.

‘I definitely would like to have children, if I’m lucky enough to be able to, but it is about managing that balance. I, maybe naively, would like to keep as much going forward as I can career-wise, but that’s about the support you have around you and the partner you’re doing that with.’

The December issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK is on sale from November 5.

Succession airs on Monday nights on Sky Atlantic at 9pm.
