Allyson Felix Claims Bronze Medal in Tokyo Olympics Was ‘More Joyful’ Than Other Honors

Allyson Felix became the most decorated American athlete as she clinched her record-breaking 11th medal in Tokyo. While she has many Olympic medals, the Tokyo Olympics has a strong emotional significance for her.
Tokyo Olympics 2020 was possibly her last outing, as she is nearing her retirement. In her last Olympic outing, Felix clinched many historical moments. However, while she missed out on an individual gold, her bronze is no less than any other glory.

Allyson Felix not disappointed with Bronze

In Tokyo, Felix clinched two medals- a gold medal in the team event and a bronze medal in the 400m women’s individual event. 35-year-old, Allyson has been on the field for quite a while now, as she had competed in her maiden Olympics back in 2004.

However, her journey hasn’t been as smooth as her medal-winning skills. Regardless of the hurdles, Felix reached Tokyo to mark herself as the most decorated American athlete. While Felix couldn’t clinch the gold medal in 400m, her bronze medal is a victory greater than any other medal.

Allyson competed in her first-ever Olympics as a mother in Tokyo. In a recent interview, Allyson revealed a bronze medal would be disappointing in a normal scenario, but given the circumstance around it, it has its own significance.

Felix said, “I think any other Olympics, a bronze medal would be almost disappointing to me. But having overcome everything that I did and being an older athlete and just kind of the combination of all those things that I was fighting against, it just made it… I think I was more joyful for that medal than so many of the other ones. So yeah, I definitely had a different approach and really a different motivation this time around.”

Recap to Allyson’s Tokyo Olympics outing

Allyson entered the mega-quadrennial games in 2020, after becoming a mother for the first time. Some athletes prefer taking rest after pregnancy, especially with tough ones like Felix’s, but the American athlete is unstoppable.

Adding to the list of hurdles, Allyson had to break her relationship with her sponsor, Nike, after their controversial decision to cut her finances because of her pregnancy. Allyson then started her own shoe brand and competed in her own handmade shoes and won.
