Canelo Alvarez Refuses to Counsel Anthony Joshua: ‘He Can Do Whatever He Wants’
Anthony Joshua looked interested in adding new names to his team after losing the heavyweight titles to Oleksandr Usyk in his hometown on September 25. The massive blow urged ‘AJ’ to explore numerous boxing gyms in the USA, including Canelo Alvarez’s team.
Joshua was spotted meeting Team Canelo, and many people predicted that he would come under Eddy Reynoso’s stable. It is still a possibility, but neither Joshua nor Team Canelo have confirmed anything from their end. As for Canelo Alvarez, he doesn’t want to suggest anything to Anthony Joshua.
Ahead of his undisputed 168 lbs title fight against Caleb Plant, Canelo Alvarez connected with Behind The Gloves. He shed views on several scenes and his recent meeting with Anthony Joshua. When asked whether he would advise ‘AJ’ to come to Team Canelo, the P4P king had a simple answer.
“No, he can do whatever he wants, what he feels good. It’s okay. He [Anthony Joshua] need to be in his mind confident. So be good and I am looking for his best.
“Good to see him. Good to see a great fighter out there, great athlete. So for me, it’s really good.”
Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua are two of the biggest names in today’s boxing domain. But the Brit star appears to be at a downfall in his career. Following 2 losses in less than 2 years, Joshua now looks vulnerable in the books of many. He is no longer the top dog of the heavyweight division. He shall resurrect himself to the win-track quickly or can lose the remaining relevancy from the title ride soon.

Can Anthony Joshua bounce back from this phase?
The 2x heavyweight champion avenged his maiden career loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. in an immediate re-match in 2019. It puts some faith in his loyalists, who has predicted him to beat Oleksandr Usyk in the rematch in early 2022. Joshua has vowed to do the same.

In a chat with IFL TV, he has claimed to turn the rematch into a slugfest. But after Usyk’s recent display of action, Joshua shall not overlook him. He needs to take the nearing battle extremely seriously. And only then he can revive himself on the win-track. Apart from the heavyweight titles, a potential fight against Tyson Fury is also at stake. Thus, Joshua needs to win his next bout at any cost.
