Marko Lands Another Blow to Lewis Hamilton’s F1 Title Hopes as He Gives Mercedes Update

The championship battle between the Mercedes and the Red Bull have consumed us all. Both teams have not left an inch in their battle, but the reliability could play a part. Mercedes have been struggling with their engines off late and could have to take another penalty. But Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko believes that they have better engines than Mercedes.

Red Bull have already taken their new engines and have not struggled with them as compared to their rivals. But Marko cautiously mentioned that they are not immune to problems.

We can get away with our engines: Helmut Marko

As reported by Auto und Motor Sport, the Austrian mentioned that with normal races and no accidents, they can see this season through without taking new engines. He also stated that according to his information, 7-time world champion would have to switch to a new engine again.

“So far, we have been absolutely reliable with the Honda engine. You are never immune from a defect. But the engine situation is certainly more reassuring on the Honda side than on the Mercedes side.” said Marko.

Marko further mentioned that he hoped they can get away with their engines. “In normal races and without accidents, we can get away with our engines. Our level of information, our hope, is that Hamilton will have to switch again.” said the Red Bull advisor.

This season is proof of how much Honda have progressed since re-entering the sport in 2015. The manufacture had initially struggled with the reliability and the pace of the engine with their partnership with McLaren.

But in their time with the Austrian team, they have developed arguably the most reliable engine on the grid. But it would be interesting to see if Red Bull can end this season without taking a new engine.
