Independent Wrestling Star Shoots on WWE After Shocking Releases

WWE has rattled the pro-wrestling industry again after a new wave of wrestlers were released from their contracts. Sean Ross from Fightful Wrestling first reported this news.

Many pro-wrestling stars around the industry reacted to this news, calling it a ‘trash move’ on WWE’s part.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that wrestlers have been released from their contracts in the name of budget cuts.

Independent wrestler Shazza McKenzie has fired shots at WWE after releasing eighteen superstars from their contracts.

Shazza McKenzie expressed her outrage on Twitter through a series of tweets.

I’m so fucking over watching good people have their dreams crushed. This business fucking sucks.

As the names of the released wrestlers kept coming from news outlets, including many couples, she tweeted,

Releasing couples together is trash. Go in the bin WWE.

Lastly, McKenzie added salt to the wound and added, ‘WWE stripped an entire household of their income.’

This tweet comes after the release of two couples, namely Keith Lee and Mia Yim. The release of Keith Lee was especially shocking, considering WWE re-vamped his gimmick and pushed him in a new direction.

Like you know you’ve just stripped an entire household of their income. TRASH.

Many other wrestlers across different promotions have also taken to social media to express their heartbreak over these releases, namely Kenny Omega, Mick Foley, and many more.

Mick Foley on Twitter praised Kross and Scarlett’s duo and said that whoever hires them will have the ‘hottest act in the biz.’

Former WWE superstar Lio Rush called these releases’ toxic and soul snatching’.

Something’s gotta give. Things need to change. It’s unhealthy. It’s toxic. It’s soul snatching. It’s embarrassing. It’s ruining lives. It’s crushing hopes and dreams. Its contributing to mental health struggles. We’re living in a world full of facades, but the damages are real.

Many wrestlers had just gotten signed to WWE, including Franky Monet, hired in February of 2021. Monet seemed to be going after the NXT Women’s Title and even wrestled Raquel for it. But plans changed for her.

How many wrestlers have WWE released?

WWE’s budget cuts started during the pandemic when Nick Khan took over as the President.  They stated that these releases were financially related; however, such reasons are unbelievable because Vince McMahon had a very profitable year in 2020.

Before the news of the releases, the company announced their 3rd quarter reports where they earned a considerable profit.

WWE’s previous expected profit for 2021 was between $270 to $305 million. Still, after announcing their quarterly profits, the CFO of WWE announced that the profit estimate is up to $315 million.

From 2020 to now, here is the complete list of the wrestlers who got released.

Unfortunately, these releases don’t reflect well on WWE because many wrestlers will hesitate to sign, not knowing when they’ll get released, and have no sources of income.

Although cuts are always disheartening to hear, most of these wrestlers will be better off wrestling somewhere where they are valued.

In the end, they will get an opportunity to showcase their potential, and who knows, WWE might sign them again as they did Drew McIntyre.
