“That Is Dying” – Denny Hamlin Crew Chief Gets Brutally Honest Ahead of Season-Finale in Phoenix
This weekend not only marks the final race of the 2021 season, but the last race for the Gen 6 cars. Now, everyone is eagerly waiting for the Next Gen cars to make their debuts in 2022. Obviously, some of the NASCAR teams will miss these cars, as they have worked on them for a long time. In light of this, Chris Gabehart, crew chief of Denny Hamlin, spoke about the outgoing cars.
He said, “This sport was built on artistry and these cars are works of art.
“There’s no such thing as perfection. The people who build them could spend endless hours making them a little more perfect each and every minute of each and every day. To a large degree, that is dying. I think it’s honestly unfortunate. I’m not saying it I agree or disagree with it, but racing was built on building the fastest car you knew how to build and then driving it as perfect as you knew how to drive it.”
Denny Hamlin and his crew chief have to focus on Gen 6’s final NASCAR race
Of course, the #11 Joe Gibbs Racing driver has other things on his mind this weekend; he is focused on the upcoming championship battle between himself and three other rivals. Hamlin has to overcome his own teammate Martin Truex Jr and the Hendrick Motorsports duo of Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson.
For now, Larson and Elliott have the advantage, as they lock out the front row, with the former on pole. Meanwhile, Hamlin is a little further behind in 6th place, while Truex Jr is starting 12th.

Whoever wins this race and the championship, will be the last Gen 6 car champion. Hamlin and Gabehart have to definitely bring their A-game if they want to give these cars the farewell they deserve.
