Chris Pratt is back to work filming Guardians of the Galaxy, after revealing he felt ‘depressed’ following backlash for a social media post dedicated to his wife.

The actor, 42, could be seen in a polaroid picture, shared to Instagram by director James Gunn to mark the first day of filming.

Surrounded by his co stars, Chris posed for the camera with his arms folded and a serious expression on his face.

He stood back-to-back with Zoe Saldana, with stars including Karen Gillan and Dave Bautista kneeling on the ground.

Filmmaker James, who was clutching what looked like a script in the photo, wrote in his caption: ‘It’s been a strange & long & at times challenging journey to get here, but the obstacles along the way have only made this moment more blissful.

‘Back on set with my Guardians family for the first day of shooting.’

Chris reprised his role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, with the third instalment set to hit cinemas in 2023.

His return to set comes after he came under fire for an Instagram post in which he professed his love for wife Katherine Schwarzenegger and their ‘healthy daughter.’

Chris praised her beside a snap of the couple cuddled up on the couch, in which Katherine, 42, smiled lovingly at her husband.

‘She’s given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes I put in my earbuds to drown it out, but that’s love,’ he wrote in his lengthy caption.

Many described the post as insensitive as Chris also shares a son with ex Anna Faris, nine-year-old Jack, who has suffered with serious health issues over the years, which the Scary Movie actress has been open about.

Following the backlash, the Jurassic World actor shared a video stating: ‘I went to bed last night feeling kind of upset and depressed and I woke up feeling crappy and I didn’t want to work out.’

While he did not directly address the controversy, he encouraged his fans to ‘get some exercise and maybe listen to some good worship music’ if they ‘feel down.’

Chris split from Anna in 2017 before marrying Katherine in June, 2019 and welcoming daughter Lyla Maria the following year.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
