Golden Joystick Awards tasks you to decide the best game ever

What deserves the ultimate golden joystick? (pic: Future Publishing)

The Last Of Us, Halo, GTA 5, and more are in the running to be voted the best game of all time as part of the Golden Joystick Awards.

Game of the Year debates can get messy, but how about deciding what the best game ever made is? That’s what this year’s Golden Joystick Awards is asking you to decide.

As part of its 50 Years of Games celebrations, the Golden Joystick Awards has compiled a shortlist of 20 of the most critically acclaimed and beloved video games to see which is considered the Ultimate Game of All Time.

Voting is already open on GamesRadar and you have only five days to vote for your favourite and convince all your friends and family to do the same.

The shortlist consists of:

Call Of Duty 4: Modern WarfareDark SoulsDoom (1993)Grand Theft Auto 5Half-Life 2Halo: Combat EvolvedMetal Gear SolidMinecraftPac-ManPokémon GoPortalSimCity (1989)Space InvadersStreet Fighter 2Super Mario 64Super Mario Bros. 3Super Mario KartTetrisThe Last Of UsThe Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

It’s definitely a solid line-up that’s ripe for starting arguments, even if it doesn’t include Advance Wars, the actual best game ever made. (And who would vote for Super Mario Kart or Call Of Duty 4 over a more modern entry?)

More: Gaming

It’s not the only major award of the event either. You’ll also need to vote on the Best Gaming Hardware of All Time, which hilariously doesn’t include the most recent consoles from Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony (makes sense considering the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 have barely been out for a year).

This list includes:

Amiga 500Atari 2600Commodore 64DreamcastGame BoyGame Boy AdvanceGameCubeNintendo 64Nintendo DSNintendo Entertainment SystemPCPlayStationPlayStation 2PlayStation 4Sega Mega DriveSega SaturnSuper Nintendo Entertainment SystemWiiXbox 360ZX Spectrum

The winners will be unveiled on November 23 during an online broadcast. The event will feature over 20 other awards, which includes Game of the Year and Studio of the Year – all voted on by the public.
