She won all our hearts as Jill Baxter in It’s A Sin, and now Lydia West is the favourite to play the next Doctor.
With Jodie Whittaker set to hang up her sonic screwdriver next year, speculation on who will take over is rife.
Now Lydia, 28, is among the front runners with Years and Years singer Olly Alexander – who she starred alongside in the Channel 4 drama.
In a recent interview with Radio Times, she addressed the rumours and didn’t shut them down.
‘I mean, the fact I’ve been named as one of the favourites is quite special,’ she said.
‘So I mean, it would be an honour to be the Doctor. I’m glad people think I could do it.’

When asked if there’s anyone in particular she’d like to see enter the TARDIS next, Lydia simply couldn’t pick.
‘Oh I don’t want to say any names. There’s too many actors that I admire out there who could play it so brilliantly,’ she added.
‘I think whoever is awarded the role will bring their own unique take to it and yeah, I’m excited to see.’
Another It’s A Sin star is also on the bookies’ list, with insiders telling The Sun that Omari Douglas would be ‘the perfect candidate.’

Screenwriter Russell T Davies is set to return to Doctor Who as show-runner in 2023, previously leading the revival of the show back in 2005, with Christopher Eccleston in the titular role.
Lydia has worked with the producer twice already – including on his 2019 drama Years and Years – so it makes sense to see her name listed as a possible 14th Doctor.
Elsewhere, Lydia has a number of projects in the pipeline following the success of It’s A Sin early this year, with one series in particular having major Doctor Who connections.
Inside Man is a four-parter created and written by Steven Moffat, starring David Tennant.
The BBC One mini series will air later this year, following a prisoner on death row in the US, a Vicar in a quiet English town, and a maths teacher trapped in a cellar, who unexpectedly cross paths.

Lydia is also about to star as one of the celebrity sitters on Portrait Artist of the Year.
She says it will be the first time she’s had her portrait drawn and says it’s a ‘great thing to do to introduce new artists to the world.’
Doctor Who continues on BBC One at 6:30pm this Sunday.
