Katie Price has been slammed by an animal rights charity over introducing a new dog into her household.

The mum-of-five recently shared a snap of her ‘protection dog’ Blade on Instagram, tagging the Protection Dogs Worldwide Instagram page.

After the company shared her story, the 43-year-old added: ‘Can’t wait for my next protection dog’.

However, the move has left some divided, as the star has had tragic experiences with animals in the past.

Pooch Rolo, a gift for daughter Princess, died last year, while her Alsatian, Sparkle, escaped into the road by her home and was hit by a car.

Another dog owned by the family, named Queenie, was killed after being hit by a delivery driver in 2018.

As well as Blade, she currently has chihuahua Buddy, while fiancé Carl Woods has a dog named Sid, however Peta has advised breeders against selling her another animal.

Elisa Allen, charity director, told The Sun: ‘Given her track record with animals, several of whom have died in her “care”, it would be irresponsible and reckless for Katie to be allowed to acquire another one.

‘And any breeder willing to sell to her is clearly putting profit over the animals’ welfare.’

A spokesperson for Katie told Metro.co.uk of the comments: ‘It has been well documented that Kate is an avid pet lover and these incidents have occurred.

‘However, Kate would be more than happy to sit down with Elisa Allen, director of Peta, to discuss her concerns.

‘Like many celebrities Kate has a voice to influence for the better, and would be more than happy to support any future Peta campaigns to help ensure pet lovers across the UK are treating animals properly.’

Upset fans started a petition to ban Katie from being able to own animals last year, following the death of the French bulldog she gifted daughter Princess.

The appeal claimed that many animals have ‘died from lack of care’ or have gone ‘missing’ from the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star’s home.

‘A puppy has died in the last 24 hours in Katie Price’s care, she brought this puppy for her 13 year old child 3 weeks ago,’ it read.

‘In the last 5 years more animals have died from lack of care. Horses, dogs, cats, lizards, hedgehogs. This isn’t a single family tragedy. It’s a common thing in Katie Price’s home.

‘Two dogs have been ran over. Puppies were found dead drowning in a neglected swimming pool. A horse was run over on a motorway. Animals just go missing in her home never to be seen again.

‘Her guard dog broke into her neighbours garden and killed their chickens. A dog trained to attack people also ripped her cat apart.’

‘Katie is aware of this petition. It comes as a devastating blow as it is wholly biased, based on hearsay and not actual fact,’ her spokesperson said of the appeal at the time.

‘Katie loves her animals, to say otherwise is incorrect, unjust and unkind, it couldn’t be further from the truth.’
