The Tower: Who is in the cast of the ITV drama? Gemma Whelan, Tahirah Sharif and more

New police crime drama The Tower gets underway on ITV tonight as Gemma Whelan plays Detective Sergeant Sarah Collins.

The three part series – which is based on Kate London’s Post Mortem novel, the first in her Metropolitan series – has been adapted by Homeland writer Patrick Harbison and features an incredible talented cast.

The drama will follow Sarah as she delves into the deaths of a police officer and teenage civilian after they both dropped from a tower block in London under mysterious circumstances.

There will be plenty to unpack over the three episodes, and the cast is packed with actors from the likes The Haunting of Bly Manor, Ted Lasso and Peaky Blinders to Anna Karenina, Our Girl and more.

As the first episode kicks off tonight (November 8) at 9pm, here is everything you need to know about the stars of the show.

Gemma Whelan – DS Sarah Collins

Game of Thrones fans will instantly recognise Gemma Collins as Yara Greyjoy, but she’s also enjoyed stints in the likes of Gentleman Jack, Killing Eve, Upstart Crow, Emma and more.

In The Tower, she takes on the lead as Sarah Collins, whose job is made harder when rookie officer Lizzie Adama (Tahirah Sharif) goes missing as a key witness.

Tahirah Sharif played Rebecca Jessel in horror favourite The Haunting of Bly Manor, while she’s also appeared in Waterloo Road, Casualty and The Christmas Prince franchise.

Her character in The Tower, who is recently qualified, is found alive on top of the tower block roof alongside a five-year-old boy.

Jimmy Akingbola – DC Steve Bradshaw

As well as Ollie in Ted Lasso, you might also recognise Jimmy Akingbola from roles in Holby City, Cheat, Kate & Koji and In The Long Run.

As Steve Bradshaw, he portrays Sarah’s right hand man, although he wasn’t able to get a witness statement from Lizzie before she disappeared.

Emmett J Scanlan – DI Kieran Shaw

Peaky Blinders fans, you should recognise Emmett J Scanlan as Billy Grade, and outside of the period drama he’s appeared in The Deceived, Kin and more.

Scanlan – who is also going to appear in the UK version of Call My Agent – plays Lizzie’s boss in The Tower.

Nick Holder – PC Hadley Matthews

As well as Peaky Blinders, Anna Karenina and The Negotiator, Nick Holder has appeared in a number of other roles across both the stage and small screen.

As Hadley Matthews, he is the older officer killed in the incident in The Tower, and he has been accused of using racist language towards a teen girl.

Lola Elsokari – Farah Mehenni

This is Lola Elsokari’s first major on-screen role, and she appears in flashbacks.

Before the beginning of the first episode of The Tower, her character Farah Mehenni falls from the roof.

Nabil Elouahabi – Younes Mehenni

As well as appearing as Rabee in Our Girl, Nabil Elouahabi played Hassan Nassor in Deep State, and enjoyed roles in Casualty, His Dark Materials and Breeders.

In The Tower, he plays Farah’s dad Younes Mehenni, who has been involved in a neighbourhood dispute and is heartbroken by her death.

The Tower starts tonight (November 8) at 9pm on ITV.
