Video: Spider Monkeys Terrify Pro Golfers at the Mayakoba Golf Classic

Monkeys are becoming a regular sight at the El Camaleon Golf Course. The World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba recently concluded as the only stop of the PGA Tour in Mexico. Held at the exotic and nature-surrounded beautiful course, it continued its annual streak and featured yet another display of monkeys.

The course derives its name due to its ever changing characteristics, a true representation of the natural environment. Situated by the Caribbean Ocean, it has been home to the event since its introduction in 2007. Situated amongst the wildlife, monkeys and macaws are a frequent sight in the exotic rainforest jungle course.

In 2016, in a video containing a spider monkey’s reaction went viral. The primate was staring around at the golfers in pure disbelief, mad at the invasion of his privacy. The hilarious commentary just adds to it all and you can’t even blame the poor chap!

However, this time, it wasn’t just a couple of monkeys waltzing into the course and attracting attention. A golfer took it upon himself to shoo them away. Andrew Landry turned into a hero and swooped into the scene with a couple of bananas.

Unsurprisingly, the animals were in a frenzy as soon as they saw their favourite treat. Landry threw them to the side, not before running away in fear of being pounced on. His skillful handling, however, forced the monkeys to clear the course as they ate their bananas.

Viktor Hovland excels at Mayakoba Golf course again

Andrew Landry finished T-7, one of the best finishes for him this year. His only better came at the Sanderson Farms Championship a couple of weeks ago where he recorded T-4 for his season’s best. Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland stole the spotlight at the event yet again as he raced to the top of the leaderboard and finished at 23-under par.

His dominant form denied anybody the opportunity to catch up to him as he made a massive 28 birdies throughout the week. The Norwegian scored a massive four stroke lead over runner-up Carlos Ortiz, and Justin Thomas finished in third.
