Great British Bake Off star Jurgen might be one of the most impressive bakers of the series, but he wasn’t immune to a disaster in the tent.

The bakers were tasked with whipping up some vegan sausage rolls as their technical task during free-from week, and all was well until Jurgen tried to take his out of the oven.

In a tragic turn of events, the sausage rolls tumbled to the floor, leaving viewers absolutely horrified.

Jurgen, however, couldn’t have been more calm about it, simply declaring: ‘This is bad’ before expertly applying the five second rule and scooping them up.

But people watching at home couldn’t cope.

‘FFS Jurgen! My nerves are in tatters here,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘Oh Jurgen my heart!’

‘The whole country just screamed when Jurgen’s vegan sausage rolls dropped,’ one more said.

Not saying I’m emotional at the minute but Jurgen dropping his vegan sausage rolls felt like the end of the world #GBBO

Others were a little disconcerted by the baker scooping up the sausage rolls from the floor.

However, while he didn’t exactly reach the heights of his usual success, Jurgen didn’t come last in the challenge – and after that tragedy, we’re calling that a win.

Jurgen has so far secured three star baker titles, but it’s still all to play (bake) for.

Meanwhile, all of the bakers found free-from week a bit of a challenge as they were tasked with whipping up veggie, vegan, and gluten-free bakes.

Fans had been demanding the return of vegan queen Freya, who was eliminated earlier in the competition.

Freya made history as the youngest contestant ever at the age of 19, but she missed out on the perfect set of challenges to suit to her baking after her early exit.

Freya was eliminated from the show during German week, and even at the time viewers thought she’d gone too soon.

She even got a shout-out from the judges this week – but we’re sure she’s cheering on her pals.

Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
