Rosamund Pike has opened up about the nudity featured in her new fantasy series The Wheel of Time, revealing how ‘pleased’ she is that ‘you see many more naked men than women’.
Based on Robert Jordan’s book series of the same name, the Amazon Prime Video series The Wheel of Time will follow Moiraine (Rosamund), a woman with the ability to use magic.
Moiraine, a member of an organisation of women with the same power, leads a group of five young people around the world, fuelled by the belief that one of them is the reincarnation of a prophesied individual called the Dragon.
With many comparing it to Game of Thrones due to its scope and fantasy themes, Rosamund has explained that her show will include more men in the nude than women – a significant difference from the HBO series.
Speaking to Radio Times, the Gone Girl actor stressed that women are frequently ‘asked to expose themselves’, which is why she finds it ‘quite pleasing’ for the boot to be placed on the other foot.
‘You see many more naked men than you see naked women, which is quite pleasing, since women have been asked to expose themselves forever and a day,’ she said.

‘We’ve got all the boys frantically dieting and working out hard for their naked scenes and all of the women going out for lovely dinners.’
Rosamund also opened up about the letters she’s received from fans of the original novels, with many male fans telling her that the women in the stories ‘were mentors and role models for them growing up’, which she found ‘very interesting’.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, Gemma Whelan, who played Yara Greyjoy on Game of Thrones, described the process of filming the sex scenes on the series as a ‘frenzied mess’.
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke stressed that nudity is ‘not what the show is about’ (Picture: HBO)
‘They used to just say, “When we shout action, go for it!”, and it could be a sort of frenzied mess,’ she said.
However, she added that ‘between the actors there was always an instinct to check in with each other’.

In March 2019, Daenerys Targaryen actor Emilia Clarke came to the defence of the nudity on Game of Thrones, emphasising that it’s ‘not what the show is about’.
‘As for my character, I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve been naked,’ she said, adding that she could ‘talk about the importance of women in this show until the cows come home’.
The Wheel of Time premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Friday November 19.
