FLAWLESS! Andy Murray Knocks Out Top Seed Jannik Sinner in Straight Sets at ATP Stockholm Open 2021
The successful phase of Andy Murray, where he was able to defeat top-tier player on the men’s singles circuit might just lag behind the impressive efforts the Brit has been putting in over the past few months on the ATP tour.
Even though Murray doesn’t have titles to show up for his commendable second half of the 2021 season, the former world no.1 does have incredible victories against the likes of youngsters like Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe.
Now, at the on-going Stockholm Open, Murray faced yet another rising tennis star in the form of Jannik Sinner. The Italian, who is enjoying a break-through season this year on-tour, managed to clinch four titles and showed the world that he is here to stay.
Let’s see how the match progressed.
Andy Murray upped the ante against Jannik Sinner to win the first set in a tie-breaker
Right from the start, it was a contest of intense baseline exchanges between the two players as both of them began to attack each other using the forehand cross-court angle.
Murray, who is known for his extra-ordinary movement on-court, maintained the same form throughout the first set and took it to a tie-breaker.
Sinner, on the other hand, who was facing the Brit for the first time, began to feel the heat as he couldn’t handle the intensity from his opponent in the breaker and ended up losing the first set, 6-7.

Sinner couldn’t handle his serve against Murray’s exquisite return game
Throughout the match, Murray was able to anticipate Sinner’s serve and adjusted his return position accordingly. This neutralization from the former world no.1 posed a lot of questions on Sinner’s mind as he found it hard to find winners.
Eventually, the Italian lost his serve in the second set twice as Andy Murray notched up another brilliant victory against one of the rising stars on men’s tour, 7-6, 6-3.
