Kamaru Usman Refuses to Admit That Colby Covington Took Him Down at UFC 268

No fighter in the UFC has ever been able to get the best of welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. However, American fighter Colby Covington definitely put up a tough challenge for the champion. The two fighters have had some bad blood going on between them ever since they first fought at UFC 245. Covington definitely gave Usman a run for his money, but got knocked out in the last round of the bout. The second time around, Usman absolutely dominated Covington, but the challenger had some moments of his own.

In a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, Usman discussed his fight against Covington at UFC 268. Usman is said to have a hundred percent takedown defense; however, many, including Cormier, believe that this wasn’t the case at UFC 268.

He said, We wrestled in a different era to where you know the transition time between these takedowns and the control is different. Nowadays it’s very very different to where they’re letting these guys wrestle through these positions to really help secure that takedown. and you know and unfortunately, you know he just really didn’t secure that takedown.”We’re still neutral there some referees that were still neutral”

However, Daniel Cormier clarified in the interview that he believes that Colby Covington had two successful takedown attempts against Kamaru Usman.

Kamaru Usman on who he thinks he is going to fight next

In his interview with Cormier, Kamaru also gave his thought on who he thinks his next opponent will be. He said,” Leon Edwards goes out and gets the job done. I mean, and as he did as this rivalry is with Masvidal. he goes out there and starts Masvidal, Leon Edwards is a bonafide star. like that’s a fight that has to happen. He hasn’t lost since he fought me the first time, and that’s what people are going to want to see.”

Kamaru also thought that Vincent Luque could be a possible opponent for him. “That’s a fight that exciting contender I should say. That’s another fight that could potentially take place.” However, Leon Edwards has a higher chance of fighting Usman compared to Vincent Luque, owing to his current form as well as his current ranking in the UFC’s welterweight division.
