The final episode of The Tower will air tonight, but with definite room for more action, many viewers want to know, will there be a season 2 of the ITV police drama?

The Tower is based on Post Mortem, the first in former Metropolitan police officer Kate London’s trilogy of books based on her time in the force.

So far, the series starring names such as Gemma Whelan and Emmett J Scanlan has gripped viewers ahead of the finale of the three-parter, which was penned by Homeland showrunner, Patrick Harbinson.

Although ITV is still yet to confirm whether there will be a second season, it’s been heavily teased there may well be more to come by some of the show’s stars, who seem onboard to reprise their roles.

Emmett J Scanlan, who plays DI Kieran Shaw explained he found out more about his character in the following two novels and admitted he’d love there to be a second season.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press before the show’s launch, he said: ‘A lot of the stuff that I learned about Kieran on isn’t really in the first season, if we go for another season, that would be nice.

‘But it isn’t in the first season, the third book is that I read of Kate London’s gave me a lot of insight into his character and how or why he is who he is, and why he makes the decisions that he makes.

‘If you look at Gemma’s character, and my opinion would be like very, very by the book, whereas Kieran would probably rewrite the book a little bit!

‘He sticks to the law, but he isn’t afraid to bend or break it to serve the greater good or his idea what the greater good is to better serve his narrative.’

Elsewhere, the show’s leading lady Gemma Whelan, who plays DS Sarah Collins teased writer Kate is working on a fourth novel to add to the series of books.

Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, she told the pair: ‘I hope we get to do it again.

‘Series tend to get better and juicer as the writer knows the characters better,’ before adding that she’d ‘love to have another crack’ at portraying her straight-talking character, Sarah.

Kate’s other novels are titled Death Message and Gallowstree Lane, with the latter focusing heavily on Emmett’s character, Kieran.

The third episode of The Tower airs tonight, so fingers crossed there will soon be news about whether there will be more to come of the popular series.

The Tower concludes tonight at 9pm on ITV.
