Just when you thought the matter between Daisy May Cooper and her publisher Penguin had been buried alongside all those proverbial hatchets, enter stage left Carole Baskin.

Earlier this month Never Mind The Buzzcocks team caption Daisy hired the Tiger King star to send a message to her publisher to pay up, claiming she was yet to receive her cheque after penning memoir Don’t Laugh, It’ll Only Encourage Her with Penguin imprint Michael Joseph last month.

It seems poor Carole had NFI what was going on, but the nature of Cameo is, evidently, if someone asks you to share a message you just do it (which hasn’t always been the best practice in the past, let’s be honest).

Anyway, it seems Penguin has found a sound messenger in ol’ Carole, and has hired her to send its own reply to Daisy this week. Which, clearly, is only encouraging her.

Carole said, in her trademark flower crown: ‘This is a message for Daisy May Cooper from Penguin Books. Daisy, pleeeease can you, or your agent, pick up the phone? We cant keep communicating through Carole Baskin.

The Netflix star added: ‘This is crazy, it’s gonna be way too expensive, so Daisy, pick up the phone.’

Daisy recently released her book – but it’s seemingly causing some strife

In a disclaimer, she went on: ‘I don’t really work for Penguin Books but you guys need to talk.’

Daisy clearly has no love lost for her publisher (or, this continues to be the world’s best publicity stunt), as she claimed in the caption she’d been asked to pen a sequel to her memoir. And in response to this supposed request, she gave a middle finger to her publisher in her stories, if that gives her emotions on the matter away.

She wrote, borrowing a quote from every angsty twenty-something female’s inspiration board: ‘Ok so because I got Sunday times bestseller, @penguinukbooks now want me to do another book. My agent has refused to take their calls so they sent this like a sh***y ex back from the past trying to slide into my DMS.

‘@penguinukbooks , if you can’t love me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best. Yours sincerely, f**k you x.’

Daisy recently recruited Carole – who is in her own company battle against Netflix – to represent her in the alleged pay dispute with Penguin, with Carole declaring in a video that Daisy will ‘not be talking to you guys anymore’ and will instead use her as the go-between.

Alongside a video of Carole she posted on her Instagram account last week, the star had claimed: ‘Penguin still aren’t paying me my final installment, despite doing all the press/everything they f**king asked for with the book. So I am refusing to communicate unless it’s through carol Baskin [sic].’

In the accompanying clip, Carole demanded Penguin ‘pay Daisy her money’ or else joking that she and the actress will ‘be coming after you with nets and leashes and tranquilizer darts’.

The star also uses the eminently quoteworthy phrase ‘askin’ for a Baskin’ as part of her public admonishment on behalf of Daisy.

In the video, Carole begins: ‘Pay Daisy her money! What’s the matter with you guys? Pay her what you owe her, for crying out loud.

‘Daisy is not going to be talking to you guys any more, she’s gonna go through Carole Baskin and bring the message through me to you because you guys are askin’ for a Baskin by not paying Daisy what she’s owed.’

Carole also warns that ‘Daisy and I are gonna come after you, we’re gonna put you in a cage just like the animals that you are for not paying what she is owed’.

‘What are you thinking?’ she continues. ‘We’re going to be coming after you with nets and leashes and tranquilizer darts for crying out loud!’

She added: ‘Yeah, we’re just kidding’, before descending into laughter and admitting that she ‘doesn’t know what is happening here’.

Neither do we, but seeing as Carole charges £182 for videos for personal use and £364 for a business video for a marketing campaign, this is going to be one costly communications exercise.
