‘Hope They Never Change It’ – Lewis Hamilton Explains His Love For Interlagos F1 Circuit

Formula One now heads deep into the Americas, for the second race in the triple header. The race at Interlagos will be key on all sides of the championship and the paddock, but perhaps of greater significance to Lewis Hamilton.

Mercedes driver finds himself behind another driver, Max Verstappen, in the championship this season, which is a rarity considering his dominance in the last few years. But the 36-year-old seems determined and upbeat in a video posted by Mercedes on Twitter.

Lewis Hamilton has some very fond memories of Brazil. It was the track where the young Briton won the first of his record-equaling seven world championships. It’s also the home track of his ‘hero’ Ayrton Senna, whose records he surpassed in the past.

Hamilton described that one of the reasons Interlagos differs from all the other tracks is the atmosphere it creates.

“It’s really the people that make it what it is. There’s the Brazilian drum bands playing in the crowd,” Hamilton said.

“It’s the colours, you know, it’s different to all the other tracks that have red and white curbs. They use the colours of their flag.”

Lewis Hamilton hopes Interlagos remains unchanged

The Silver Arrows driver confessed his love for the ‘classic layout’ track at Interlagos. Hamilton, who has won twice in Brazil, seems to be a big fan of the layout of the track.

“It’s like an old go-kart track that you have to go to where you would be out to the back of your trailer.”

The seven-time world champion also explained how the anti-clockwise direction of the track, along with the high elevation and temperature, makes it a more physically challenging track. But regardless, he wishes the track remains as it is.

“I hope they never change it.”

The circuit has seen some iconic moments in the past, one of which was the first chapter in Lewis Hamilton’s incredible story.

Be it the emotional first home victory for Hamilton’s hero Ayrton Senna, or the 2012 title-deciding win for his former rival Sebastian Vettel or the race in 2016 in which his current championship rival, Max Verstappen announced himself to the world, Interlagos has seen it all.

Brazil has given Formula 1, it’s fans and it’s drivers many moments to cherish

This Sunday, if Hamilton ends up winning against his rival, he’ll definitely add one of the most important moments of this season, and arguably of his career as he aims to break Michael Schumacher’s all time record.
