Metroid Prime Nintendo Switch remaster was finished months ago claims source

A new rumour suggests that not only is Nintendo working on a remaster of the original Metroid Prime but that work on it is already complete.

Over the last few years there’ve been more rumours about a remaster of Metroid Prime 1 than there ever has for the brand new Metroid Prime 4, and yet still there’s never been any hint from Nintendo that it actually exists.

There are rumours dating back to 2019 that not only are Nintendo planning a remaster of the original three games but that it was essentially complete, the release purposefully delayed when work on Metroid Prime 4 was rebooted.

More recently though, the suggestion has been that only Metroid Prime 1 has been given the remaster treatment… and that it’s already finished.

Trusted Nintendo source Emily Rogers was the main voice behind the claims and now says that she’s ‘pretty confident’ Metroid Prime 1 development was completed over the summer and is now ‘clearly finished’.

Expanding on her original tweet on forum ResetEra, she added that the plan in 2017, before work on Metroid Prime was restarted, was to ‘remake/remaster the entire trilogy’, but with the idea to release the first game on its own and use the tools from that to help create the other two remasters.

Rogers is apparently uncertain whether that is still the plan but does insist that Metroid Prime 1 entered QA/testing during the summer and that original developer Retro Studios was the main developer.

She doesn’t rule out the possibility that remasters of the other two games could also be completed, or at least be in development, but doesn’t pretend to know either way.

It’s always been assumed that Nintendo was delaying the remasters so that they would come out closer to the release of Metroid Prime 4, which still doesn’t have a date and is unlikely to be out next year.

How far in advance they would choose to release a remaster, in order to drum up interest in a new game, is unclear but clearly it doesn’t make much sense to do so now if Metroid Prime 4 isn’t going to be out for another two years or so.
