While most of the kids of his age chose to use their time enjoying themselves at various gatherings, Benavidez hit the boxing gym every day to become what he is today. No one back then knew what Benavidez was capable of. But once he turned pro, the young gun showed the world that he deserved to be taken seriously.

Benavidez, from a young age, surrounded himself with boxing icons. But not many know that ‘El Bandera Roja’ trained alongside the Filipino Senator Manny Pacquiao.

A year ago, ESNews shared the video of a 13-year-old Benavidez hitting the mitts with his father, Jose Benavidez. Sr. In the same video, Manny Pacquiao can be seen training for an upcoming fight.

Back then, Benavidez was bulky, and he undoubtedly wasn’t in his best shape. However, he had the boxing genes, which helped him transform and enjoy a sensational boxing career.

‘El Bandera Roja’ even sparred the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Peter Quillin, and more when he was just 15. He slowly began to adopt the life of a boxer and since then he never turned back.

Today, his track record stands at 24 wins with 0 losses. On top of that, he holds 21 wins under his belt due to T/KO.

Benavidez is also a two-time WBC super-middleweight champion. This just seems like one accomplishment among the many more that are on their way to this young gun. For any novice in the sport of boxing, it’s a dream to train alongside legends like Manny Pacquiao and more. Benavidez did the same long back, and he unquestionably was taught a great deal. And Benavidez used those learnings in all his boxing bouts.

‘El Bandera Roja’ still shows the hunger he had in his initial boxing days. This trait will help him go a long and decorated way in the sport. And it will certainly be interesting to see if Benavidez goes on to truly become a legend of the sport.
