David Benavidez Explains Why He Is a Better Opponent Than Jermall Charlo for Canelo Alvarez

Super middleweight’s top-prospect David Benavidez has been eyeing a scrap against undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez for several months. Relying on his own undefeated status, Benavidez believes he can be an antidote to Alvarez’s dominance. However, he is just another name on the long list of potential opponents who can get a shot at Canelo.

Starting from middleweights to cruiserweights, Alvarez is grabbing attention from various boxers. However, Jermall Charlo, the 160 lbs champion, and David Benavidez, the former 168 lbs champion, appear to be two of the most prominent names in the race. Both the undefeated stars have claimed that they will offer a tough fight to Canelo Alvarez.

‘El Bandera Roja’ has freshly detailed why he is a better option than Charlo and should get the chance first.

In an interaction with Brian Custer, Benavidez said, “Well, you know first thing is first, because I am the number one contender in the super middleweight. I have been at super middleweight my whole career. Charlo has never had a fight at super middleweight. You know he is trying to skip the line and go straight to the paycheck.”

“I don’t mind fighting, Charlo. You know I feel like that will be a great situation to have an Interim belt. You know, I mean it makes sense on both sides. But Charlo, I feel like he is not sure about himself, you know.”

Former WBC super-middleweight champion David Benavidez will face Kyrone Davis this weekend. On bagging his twenty-fifth pro win, he can expect a shot at the world titles.

On papers, Alvarez and Benavidez may seem aligned to lock horns. But reality can be sheerly contrasting. A trilogy fight between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez has been a matter of discussion for the past few months.

Meanwhile, Alvarez can move up to 175 or move down to 160 anytime. That will further complicate Benavidez’s chances of facing the P4P King.
