Oscar De La Hoya Bins Comeback Plans to Fight Canelo and Floyd Mayweather: ‘I Am Not Feeling It’

Golden Boy chief Oscar De La Hoya may still have the itch to return to action. But he is not running after it and has explained that he has no urge towards an immediate comeback. He was supposed to face Vitor Belfort in a Triller PPV on September 11, which fell off after the six-division champion reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

Belfort faced a 58-year-old Evander Holyfield as a replacement. The UFC star scored a first-round KO. Following the outcome, it seemed hard to see De La Hoya beating ‘The Phenom’. Meanwhile, the Golden Boy had also desired to trade blows with Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather, that too under professional rules.

Well, none of his recent statements replicate that anymore. In a chat with Fight Hype.com, Oscar De La Hoya said, “You know I am not really feeling it right now, but. Because I went running the other day, couple of miles and my chest was still burning. So I am not feeling it. Right now, I am not feeling it. But who knows? Yeah, I am still working out. I still got the speed. I am doing a few rounds. But we will see.”

The trend of veteran fighters returning to action has become extremely popular in the past few years. Following Mike Tyson’s and Roy Jones Jr’s footsteps, several more legends have also come back to the ring. Oscar De La Hoya also wanted to do the same.

Nevertheless, as he has still handed a lifeline to his comeback plans. ‘Golden Boy’ can lace up the gloves at any given point.

Oscar De La Hoya can still return in an exhibition

Other than his own comeback plans, the former world champion is now in charge of several young boxers. The Golden Boy Promotions reflects one of the biggest rosters, having fighters like Ryan Garcia and Jaime Munguia under its umbrella. Hence, De La Hoya has a lot of outer-ring activities to look for.

As for an in-ring return, he can also opt to box a celebrity or a mere social media star. As a lot of boxers like Floyd Mayweather have opted to face below-average opponents in recent times, Oscar De La Hoya can look into that.
