Red Bull F1 Boss Staggered by ‘Unbelievable’ Mercedes Claim Against Max Verstappen
The 2021 season keeps on delivering! When we all thought that this season could not give us more news, the Sau Paulo Qualifying drama just shocked the F1 fans. But Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko was shocked that Mercedes were pointing a finger at Max Verstappen.
The stewards in their post-qualifying inspection found that the rear wing of Lewis Hamilton‘s car was illegal. They found the DRS wing was opening 85mm more than it was supposed to. Then in a video, Max Verstappen was seen inspecting the rear wing after the session.

Marko furious over Mercedes’s recent claim regarding Max Verstappen
According to F1- insider, The Red Bull driver touched the rear wing of the Mercedes to compare that to his own car. The German team supposed claimed that there was a malfunction in the rear wing, maybe because Max had touched that part. This angered Marko and he stated,
“The unbelievable thing is that Mercedes is now claiming that Max damaged Hamilton’s rear wing with his fingers.”

As reported by F1 Chronicle, The FIA allows 101cm for the rear wing and an additional 5cm for each of the endplates. The rear wing has to be 35cm in front of the rear point of the car and has to be 22 or less cm deep. Then the team has to decide on the flexibility of the wing.
The rear wing is a heavy object and Max touching it won’t make a difference to it. So the argument of Max hindering and tampering with the part might not be the correct one.
Despite all that drama, Marko was pleased with the team’s result in qualifying. ”It was not an ideal lap of Max in Q3. The gap would be 0.2s with a good lap, which is still very much. We didn’t manage to find the ideal setup.” said Marko.
The stewards fined Verstappen 50k euros for touching the rear wing, as he violated the sporting conduct. Hamilton was disqualified from the qualifying session and had to start the sprint from the back of the grid.
