Which Banned Substance Did David Benavidez Test Positive For?

David Benavidez is all set to storm into the boxing ring for the second time in 2021. He is one of the most dominant fighters in the 168-pound frame who has also won the titles twice. However, he doesn’t hold any belt for now, but Benavidez is eager to resurrect his position to advance his chances towards a glory shot.

Although undefeated, Benavidez’s career has been full of trials. And one such dreadful anecdote that took place in his career was when he tested positive for a banned substance.

Per The Ring, ‘El Bandera Roja’ tested positive for Benzoylecgonine by the Voluntary Anti Doping Association.

This incident took place when Benavidez was supposed to take on Anthony Dirrell for his title defense. However, he didn’t begin the training camps while he tested positive for the same.

But, a few months later, everything came on track and the young gun took up the ring space against the veteran Dirrell. Giving his best shot in this fight, ‘El Bandera Roja’ won the contest via a KO in round 9.

Benavidez since then has only worked on his boxing stint and has tried to stay out of fight-related controversies.

He is one of the most promising young talents who possess a vibrant future. Benavidez himself knows the same, and he often tries to do what he’s supposed to when he’s inside the ring. That said, he took a mammoth lesson when he tested positive for the banned substance, and since then he’s only looked to fight in the cleanest manner possible.

“They let Canelo do whatever he wants. That’s why he was able to get that short suspension. Suspensions for [PEDs] should be for almost a year or a year-and-a-half. It’s nothing to play with. I think people have to be punished more.”
