Dick and Dom don’t think their ‘cruel’ TV show could be made now

Former CBBC presenters Dick and Dom don’t believe their memorable TV show, Dick and Dom in da Bungalow would exist now, due to cancel culture.
The comedic duo, whose full names are Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood, presented the children’s series, which aired for five series from 2002 to 2006.
The game show featured many stunts such as the pair yelling bogeys, and the game Baldy Slap Heads, however, they’ve admitted that they wouldn’t be able to make those jokes in 2021 due to political correctness.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Richard aka Dick, said: ‘The rulebook since then has got bigger.’
Dom jokingly explained how one game, in particular, involved getting people to hold puppies who would lick dog food off vases, and while those sketches were funny back then, he believes it wouldn’t be ‘allowed’ now.
The double act faced criticism in the past, after a senior MP branded the series ‘inappropriate’ for young viewers in 2005.

Peter Luff attacked the BBC, and said: ‘Is that really the stuff of public service broadcasting.’
A spokeswoman said at the time: ‘Dick and Dom in da Bungalow remains one of the most popular shows, which transmits both on The CBBC Channel and BBC1.
‘The show and presenters won children’s Baftas in 2004. It is pure fun and entertainment, aimed at 8-12 year-olds, so it is unsurprising that it doesn’t appeal to some adults.’
It was revealed in June this year that the pair were teaming up again with an adult version of the children’s classic, which is set to air in 2022.
The grown-up reboot is based on their podcast, Cash From Chaos, which involves a live studio audience and sees their earnings up for grabs.
Richard explained: ‘We’ve been moving to that millennial generation – the kids that grew up with us.

‘Cash From Chaos is basically a game show, so the audience try to win what we’ve been paid.’
He continued to The Mirror: ‘They play games against us to try and win our money. It went really well. We’re going to start running in the pilots for it, so fingers crossed.’
