Green Bay Packers Launch Public Stock Offering; Require Money to Improve Stadium

The Green Bay Packers will sell $90 million in stock to the public in order to raise money for improvements to Lambeau Field. This will be the sixth time the publicly owned team has done so.

According to a statement released by the team on Monday, the Packers will sell 300,000 shares at $300 each beginning Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. CST and continuing until Feb. 25, 2022.

Green Bay Packers release statement announcing selling of shares of the team’s stock

Ever since hearing the news, people have been confused if stock offering is akin to trading in the Wall Street. Unfortunately, that’s not the case as the Packers are an NPO. The Packers are the only publicly owned, not-for-profit team in the NFL, having initially offered stock to the public in 1923, four years after the franchise was founded. Later on, the stock offering has happened only four times in the history of the team – 1935, 1950, 1997, and 2011.

The statement released by Packers during the announcement clarifies this. “Stock in the Packers does not constitute an investment in ‘stock’ in the common sense of the term,” and that “anyone considering the purchase of Packers stock should not purchase the stock to make a profit or to receive a dividend or tax deduction or any other economic benefits,” as the stock has no underlying value and cannot be traded on open markets.

ICYMI: The Packers defeat the Seattle Seahawks in a scintillating fashion

The Green Bay Packers kept their perfect start to the season going by absolutely dominating the Seattle Seahawks. With a swashbuckling performance from the Packers defence, the Packers triumphed 17-0. Containing a team comprising Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett to a combined 0 point is truly remarkable and praiseworthy, which is exactly what the Seattle defense did.

While the Seahawks defense deserves credit, Russell Wilson’s rustiness also aided them. The Seahawks captain’s rustiness entirely devoured Seattle’s offensive outlet. Thanks to Wilson’s sloppiness, Metcalf and Lockett had pretty much nothing to do. Wilson’s errant passes, repeated interceptions, and overall sloppiness rendered the duo as non-factors.
