Floyd Mayweather Doubles Down on Retirement: ‘I’m Not Coming Back to the Sport of Boxing’

Floyd Mayweather will not be entering the ring again. The 44-year-old unbeaten champ confirmed that he will not be coming out of retirement to fight anyone. ‘Money’ is currently focusing on his businesses and all his properties so he can set his children up for life. He last fought earlier this year in an exhibition match.

Floyd spoke to FightHub TV about all things boxing. Topics discussed ranged right from the Canelo fight, to rumors of another exhibition fight.

The interviewer asked ‘Money’ Mayweather if he would come back to boxing, which prompted a rather quick reply from the champ. “Oh no, no, no, I’m not coming back to the sport of boxing.” Floyd said.

“The sport of boxing was good to me. I was able to make a lot of smart investments on the outside and I just wanna help, you know, like I said, the fighters that’s up and coming.” 

Floyd’s boxing promotion company has fighters like Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Rolando Romero signed. So Floyd’s focus right now is to help ‘Tank’ in his career.

Floyd last fought earlier this year on 6 June at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. He came out of retirement to face YouTuber turned boxer Logan ‘The Maverick’ Paul in an eight-round exhibition match. Although they did not declare an official winner for the fight, Floyd very clearly outboxed the taller and stronger YouTuber.

Floyd Mayweather does not understand why ‘Tank’ Davis is not in the pound-for-pound top ten list

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is one of the most skilled and exciting boxers currently. His promoter Floyd Mayweather feels he deserves to be in the top ten ranking for the pound-for-pound best fighters. “I don’t understand why he’s not in the top ten pound-for-pound.” Besides Davis, Floyd also spoke about all the other up-and-coming boxers that he’s proud of.

“Terence Crawford, Errol Spence, Benavidez, the list goes on and on. There’s so many tough fighters out there, so many great young champions out there that I’m proud of.”

Spoken like a true promoter, Mayweather is looking out for his own. However, his emphatic no, when asked about a return to the squared circle, meant that boxing fans who wanted to watch Mayweather in action one more time will be disappointed.
