Jimmie Johnson & Chad Knaus’ Hilarious Exchange Which Proves They’ve Buried the Hatchet
In a recent interview, Jimmie Johnson spoke of his relationship with former crew chief Chad Knaus. He told Graham Bensinger that the two of them often got on each other’s nerves. However, Johnson insisted that he appreciated the ‘brutal’ honesty from the crew chief.
Admittedly, it appeared that Knaus had seen the interview and they had a friendly verbal spar. This took place during the IMSA race at the Road Atlanta track. The two of them were in the Action Express pit stand during the qualifying session for the #48 car. Around that time, ex F1 driver Kamui Kobayashi was in the car, so Johnson sat in the pit box. Needless to say, their banter was hilarious.
When Johnson asked Knaus whether he was ‘good’, the latter quipped, “Well, I was until I found out you hated me,”. Later on, the two shared a good laugh which highlighted their strengthened relationship.

All in all, Jimmie Johnson, Kamui Kobayashi, and Simon Pagenaud qualified 6th. Later on, the Ally Racing trio performed well and stayed out of trouble to finish in a fine fourth place. Meanwhile, it was Jonathan Bomarito, Oliver Jarvis, and Harry Tincknell who won the race. However, though they won the battle, Pipo Derani and Felipe Nasr won the war.

To be precise, the Brazilian duo went on to clinch the 2021 IMSA SportsCar Championship title. All this was in spite of a last gasp attack from Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor. At the hands of Taylor, he lunged for a move to decide the championship, but ended up cutting the corner. Nasr took the place back after Taylor rejoined the track. From there, he held on to finish 2nd and clinch the title, much to his and the team’s delight.
