‘That Guy Influenced a Whole Culture’- Joe Rogan and Snoop Dogg Name the Martial Artist Who Inspired Them

Famed UFC commentator Joe Rogan sat down with west coast rap icon Snoop Dogg, who appeared on an episode of his podcast. Snoop Dogg talked about his upcoming performance at the Super Bowl and his introduction to combat sport, amongst other things. Chiefly, during their three-and-a-half-hour long chat, both men also spoke about their love for actor Bruce Lee.

For many MMA fans, Bruce Lee was the pioneer who ushered in the era of pure combat, along with entertainment. His classic films are still looked upon fondly till today and two die-hard fans in Rogan and Snoop Dogg talked about his impact. Through their exchange, it’s clear that Bruce Lee fans do indeed exist several years after his death.

“It’s kind of crazy that one guy [Bruce Lee] and one particular style of movie created like a whole way that people wanted to fight. They wanted to start kicking people.”

“Before that, it was like fisticuffs. One group of people figured it out. It’s so attractive for people to fight that way, they like kick each other and sh*t”

“That guy influenced a whole culture. He’s absolutely the original reason why I got into interested in martial arts. I lived in an apartment building in Newark, NJ and one of the kids that lived downstairs from me had gotten into Bruce Lee. We watched a Bruce Lee over his house and I was like ‘Holy sh*t’.”

Joe Rogan: An unrelenting force

Despite being involved in numerous ventures, Joe Rogan continues to act as a vital part of the fabric of MMA. His commentary stints at UFC events may just be limited to pay-per-views, but fans still want to hear Rogan when it’s time for a title fight.

With the consolidation of his podcast at the very top of the food chain, he also has a platform to showcase talented fighters on the roster. Several notable UFC fighters have talked with Rogan over the years and fans have gravitated towards them. Regardless of your views on Rogan’s sometimes-controversial stances, it’s impossible to deny the vast impact he’s had in the MMA world.
