Honda Can Return to F1 in the Future

At the end of the 2021 season, Honda will be parting ways with the world of Formula One. But, the engine manufacturer will still work with Red Bull as they will assist them as they transition into making their own power units.

However, the Managing Director of Honda, Masashi Yamamoto is disappointed to leave the grid but understands they need to be carbon neutral. Nevertheless, he doesn’t cross the idea of one day returning to the Formula One grid.

Honda will still work with Red Bull even after they leave Formula One

With the Japanese manufacturer leaving the grid, the Milton-Keynes-based outfit will form their own power units called, Red Bull Powertrains, and will continue to work with Honda but on a smaller scale.

Even though the Japanese manufacturer will be leaving the grid at the end of the season, they still have hope of returning to the pinnacle of motorsports.

Speaking to Formule1.nl he said, “I personally think it is disappointing that we are withdrawing. At the same time, at Honda Racing, we understand that as an automaker, Honda must commit to becoming carbon neutral. That process must be accelerated, hence this decision. However, the good thing is that we have always focused on performance and can compete for the title this year. It’s great that this is possible in our last year. It shows that our efforts are paying off in the end.”

“I personally think that Honda will return to Formula 1. The situation now is that Honda needs to focus on becoming CO2 neutral and accelerate that project. If that goes well, I think there are definitely people within the company who want to get back into Formula 1,” he concluded.
