Dognappers be warned – don’t mess with Josie Gibson.

The presenter, who is standing in for Holly Willoughby on This Morning, has revealed that she once stepped in to confront a dognapper who tried to steal her pooch.

Josie was discussing a news story with co-host Phillip Schofield, as well as Matthew Wright and Camilla Tominey, on Thursday’s show when she made the startling revelation.

As she stated on the programme, a new criminal offence is close to being introduced which will tackle dognapping – with people who steal them possibly facing up to five years in jail if convicted.

Speaking on the show, Josie said she took the law into her own hands on one memorable occasion.

‘I actually caught a dognapper trying to steal my dog,’ she said on the programme.

‘I said, “She’s 18 with cancer, you better put her down,”’ Josie said, before adding: ‘I was getting out the car and I was pregnant at the time. I said, “She’s 18 years old and she’s got cancer. I would put her back down and just give up.’

‘Well, well done you,’ a shocked Phillip said.

‘I’m well up for them getting jail time,’ Josie added.

Don’t mess with Josie!

It comes after This Morning regular Josie stepped in to host for the first time in place of Holly on Tuesday, and was left incredibly emotional in the aftermath.

Josie normally fronts competition segments on the ITV daytime programme and is a favourite with viewers.

Earlier this week she stepped in when the main presenter came down with a stomach bug on Tuesday.

Speaking on Wednesday’s show, Josie explained how she was left very emotional after completing her first gig as host, saying: ‘Do you know what? Social media can be quite a dark place at times.

‘But yesterday I was showered with love. I had a good cry, I did have a cry for about half an hour after the show.’

Her co-host joked that he often did the same, before asking: ‘Of what, relief?’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
