Shaquille O’Neal Makes Massive New York Investment in $1.5 Billion Arena

Not for the first time, Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal has made landed another massive business deal. Post his retirement in 2011, Shaq has been an active businessman and entrepreneur. As it stood, he had earned large amounts of money during his NBA career. Yet, the 49-year-old is one of the few who continues to make the business headlines many years after hanging up their boots. When Shaq goes for it, he eventually scores. This was the case with a Florida mansion that he sold recently as well. In his playing days, O’Neal was one of the premier centers in the NBA. He was the Lakers’ top prospect at one stage, and a multi-million dollar icon. During his career spanning two decades, he averaged close to 24 points. Along with this, he was also a 4-time NBA champion, 3-time Finals MVP, and a 15-time All-star.

Shaquille O’Neal lands deal at New York’s UBS Arena

At that stage, Shaq signed the richest contract in the league. Thus, he is no stranger to the big bucks. The 2016 Hall of Fame inductee is the co-owner of popular restaurant chain Big Chicken. After the first venture was successful in Las Vegas, Big Chicken now has multiple branches. Now, the former Laker is focusing on opening the restaurant across sporting stadiums. And he has now made a huge investment in New York’s UBS Arena, home to the NHL’s New York Islanders.

The new stadium is worth around $1.5 billion, and can house massive crowds. It is set to host its first regular season game on November 20th, and Shaq’s restaurant venture will have a huge role. Now, Big Chicken has reportedly signed a big deal with the Arena, and will sell its fried chicken sandwiches during NHL games and other events. Promoting his chain while talking to CNBC, Shaq said, “This is my ritual. Fried chicken with cheese, pickles and hot sauce.”

The deal marks yet another off-court success for the great Shaquille O’Neal. Now, the NHL buffs and the city of New York will get a taste of Big Chicken. Partnering with the new stadium may just be another brilliant move from Shaq, who will reap the benefits very soon. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of fried chicken?
