“You Broke My Heart!”: New York Yankees Fans Shocked by Justin Verlander to Houston Astros Deal
The controversy around Justin Verlander’s future with New York Yankees and Houston Astros has finally ended. In what is a heartbreaking piece of news for many, it is official; Justin is signing back with the Astros.
Notably, his former team, Detroit Tigers, and their fans, who were eagerly waiting for him to return home, are thoroughly disappointed with the news. However, his decision did not just upset Tigers’ fans but also shocked some Yankees fans, who expected Verlander to join the Bombers for the 2022 season.

Justin was part of the Detroit Tigers from 2005 to 2017, until they traded him to the Astros. Moreover, the 38-year-old pitcher won the All-Star award eight times, and the Cy Young Award two times. Since then, Tigers’ fans wanted their star to come back home. In fact, they also wanted Carlos Correa to sign with the Detroit Tigers. Sad for the fans, Justin is now off the table, while Correa’s future is still uncertain.
Subsequently, they weren’t happy about Justin joining the Houston Astros again.

Interestingly, Justin has re-signed the Astros offer, after declining a New York Yankees million-dollar offer. The Yankees had offered the veteran player a $10million one year offer, with an option to renew for a second year.

Houston Astros fans happy on Justin Verlander’s return
Back in 2017, the Detroit Tigers had traded Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros, and astonishingly, Astros clinched the World Series in the same year. On Wednesday night, Justin’s brother and MLB analyst, Ben Verlander, declared the news of his brother’s future.
Ben wrote, “IT’S OFFICIAL. @justinverlander is signing with Houston Astros!” He also revealed, Verlander is signing a one-year contract worth $25 million, with a player option for the 2nd year, with the Houston Astros.

Interestingly, this happened after Justin had earlier declined Astros’ one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer. Undoubtedly, Astros’ fans were delighted to have the Two-time Cy Young Award winner back in their camp. Notably, Justin has not pitched since Opening Day 2020 because of his Tommy John surgery. However, he will now finally come back on the mound for spring training, in an Astros uniform.
