I’m A Celebrity 2021: Louise Minchin on very motivational advice from Carol Kirkwood ahead of stint in the castle

Louise Minchin spoke out on the brilliant pep talk she had from Carol Kirkwood after confirming her spot on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! for 2021.

The former BBC Breakfast host is one of the names who will be entering the grounds of Gwrych Castle on Sunday night, along with stars such as TV legend Richard Madeley and Emmerdale’s Danny Miller.

Louise was looking for a new challenge to get stuck into ahead of a busy 2022 after she left her gig of 20 years on the BBC sofas, where she presented alongside Dan Walker.

Her former colleagues were amongst the first to know as she opened up to press on the reaction of Carol along with Dan and Sally Nugent, who later became her replacement.

It seems they all came armed with some great advice too, with Carol, in particular, encouraging her to really have fun and get stuck in with the experience.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk and other press ahead of her stint, Louise said: ‘I’ve had advice from Dan and Sally actually, and Carol.

‘Carol said to me, “Why not go for it? You only live once, just go in there and enjoy it!” and I think that’s the thing to do. I mean, how could you not?

‘Hopefully, there will be bits that will be enjoyable. and I think that’s, that’s kind of the most the biggest advice is to take in as much as they can just to go and enjoy an experience that I’ve never had before.

It’s hugely challenging, and hopefully, you know, on lots of levels will still be fun even though it is challenging.’

Luckily Louise seems more than up for the challenge, but she’s hoping her former colleagues won’t be voting her for the trials.

With Dan currently making his way through the weeks of Strictly Come Dancing, the pair previously promised to vote for each on their respective programmes.

She added: ‘I’ve been voting for him. He says he’ll vote for me – but I’d hope he’s not voting for me to do trials!’

Louise told Sally and Dan a couple of days before the news was finally out in the open, after keeping the ‘massive secret’ for around three months.

Of their reaction, she said: ‘I think in some ways they were not at all surprised because they know that I love challenges.

‘They know that I love this show, so it’s kind of not a massive surprise to them, but they’re absolutely 100% behind me and looking forward to watching me on the show. Hopefully not voting for trials but [they gave me a] really positive reaction.

But she teased: ‘I’m not sure they would do it themselves, but they love fact that I’m doing it!’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here begins on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
