LPGA CME Tour Championship to Witness a Significant Prize Money Increase From 2022
In a colossal moment for women’s golf, the LPGA CME Group Tour Championship has announced a boost in its purse for the 2022 edition of the event.
The CME Group and LPGA Tour announced the brilliant news as the 2021 event kicks off at the Tiburón Golf Club, the Gold Course, in Naples, Florida. The CME Tour Championship, initially known as the CME Tour Titleholders, is the season-ending of the LPGA Tour season and offers a limited 60 berths.
Eligibility is via a points race, collected throughout the year, as per standings in various events. As for winners, it boasts of the best that have been produced so far- Ko Jin Young, Kim Sei Young, Lexi Thompson, Ariya Jutanugarn, and Lydia Ko.

CME Group Tour Championship raises purse to $7 million; highest of the LPGA Tour
They started the event off with a $1.5 million purse in 2011. In 2019, it was increased to $5 million, offering the largest winner’s share in women’s golf at $1.5 million. However, this time, they have increased the purse to $7 million, giving way for a winner’s payout of $1.5 million. And on behalf of the limited field, every player is guaranteed $40,000.
@CMEGroup and the LPGA Tour announced today that the purse for the 2022 @CMEGroupLPGA will grow to $7 million, up from $5 million in 2021. The winner will receive $2 million, the largest single prize in the history of women’s golf!

LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said, “The Race to the CME Globe and the CME Group Tour Championship have transformed the LPGA since their inception in 2014. Today’s announcement is another example of CME’s continued pioneering support of the LPGA and their commitment to leveling the playing field for female golfers, and female athletes in general, from around the globe.”
Meanwhile, CME Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Terry Duffy said, “We are proud to support women in business and women in sports. We are extremely pleased to announce significant enhancements to the CME Group Tour Championship that will further reward these world-class golfers while also creating more equity within the sport.”
Well, this is certainly great news! $7 million will far outnumber the current highest purse of $5.5 million of the US Women’s Open. Perhaps this will initiate the much-needed push for women’s golf to come to par with the men’s tours in terms of purses. What are your thoughts?
